Description

Indulge in the delightful combination of crispy pistachio-coated halloumi cheese sticks drizzled with a zesty lime glaze. This appetizer offers a fusion of Mediterranean flavors with a spicy-sweet twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 225 g halloumi cheese, cut into 8 thick sticks
  • ½ cup shelled pistachios, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • juice and zest of ½ lime
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil for frying
  • optional fresh mint or lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Pat halloumi dry and cut into sticks. Set up two shallow dishes, one with beaten egg and one with chopped pistachios and breadcrumbs.
  2. Coat Halloumi: Dip each halloumi stick in egg, then coat in the pistachio–panko mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. Fry Halloumi: Heat oil in a skillet and fry coated halloumi sticks until golden and crisp, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  4. Make Glaze: In a saucepan, combine honey, chili flakes, lime juice, lime zest, and a pinch of salt. Warm until runny and fragrant.
  5. Drizzle and Serve: Transfer cooked halloumi to a plate, drizzle with the warm lime glaze, and garnish with mint or lime wedges. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust chili flakes for your preference.
  • For extra crunch, chill the coated halloumi before frying.
  • Best enjoyed immediately after cooking.
