Description

These Star Cookies are a delightful treat perfect for any occasion, with a buttery and tender texture that melts in your mouth. Whether you’re decorating them for the holidays or enjoying them as is, these cookies are sure to be a hit with everyone!

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting or icing for decorating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Add the Flavor: Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), and mix until fully combined.
  3. Combine the Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until a dough forms. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. Bake the Cookies: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll out one dough disc at a time on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them 1 inch apart on the baking sheets.
  5. Cool and Decorate: Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar or decorate with icing and sprinkles once cooled.

Notes

  • These cookies hold their shape well, making them great for holiday decorating.
  • You can freeze the dough for up to 2 months.
  • Add lemon zest or cinnamon for a flavor twist.
