Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar if using. Add cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Pour in cold buttermilk and stir just until a shaggy dough forms. Pat the dough into a rectangle, fold over onto itself, then pat out again.
  4. Cut out biscuits: Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place on baking sheet. Brush the tops with buttermilk.
  5. Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
