Scale
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
Wet Ingredients:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ¾ cup cold buttermilk (plus more for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar if using. Add cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add wet ingredients: Pour in cold buttermilk and stir just until a shaggy dough forms. Pat the dough into a rectangle, fold over onto itself, then pat out again.
- Cut out biscuits: Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place on baking sheet. Brush the tops with buttermilk.
- Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Keep ingredients cold for flakier biscuits.
- Handle dough gently to maintain layers.
- For extra richness, brush hot biscuits with melted butter when they come out of the oven.
