Description

Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Cheese Filling:

  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Other:

  • 9 lasagna noodles (regular or oven-ready)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a skillet, cook onion and garlic, then brown the ground beef. Add marinara, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and salt.
  3. Layer: In a 9×13-inch dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and repeat. Top with Parmesan.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake, then uncover and bake until golden. Rest before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat sauce or use Italian sausage instead of ground beef.
