Beef:
- 1 ½ pounds beef sirloin or chuck steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
Other Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ cup dry white wine or beef broth
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of crusty bread (optional, for topping or serving)
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef: Season and sear the beef until browned. Set aside.
- Caramelize Onions: Cook onions until deeply caramelized. Add garlic and flour.
- Deglaze and Simmer: Deglaze with wine or broth, add remaining ingredients, and simmer until beef is tender.
- Finish and Serve: Melt cheese over beef mixture and garnish with parsley. Serve with toasted bread if desired.
