Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, thinly sliced

Cheese Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the cheese sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk and cream. Stir in seasonings and cheeses until smooth.
  3. Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and tender.
  5. Rest and garnish: Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
