Potatoes:
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, thinly sliced
Cheese Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish:
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make the cheese sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk and cream. Stir in seasonings and cheeses until smooth.
- Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and tender.
- Rest and garnish: Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
