- 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (more if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
- Prepare batter: Combine dry ingredients, add wet ingredients, mix in coffee, and divide batter into pans.
- Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks.
- Make frosting: Beat butter, add dry ingredients, mix in wet ingredients, and frost cakes.
