Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Mix in applesauce until well combined.
- Combine and Bake: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing just until combined. Fold in nuts and raisins, if using. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan before slicing and serving.
